TARA DIRECT ACTION SHALLOW WELL HAND PUMP

INTRODUCTION

Ajay’s TARA Direct Action Hand Pump is yet another contribution for providing safe potable water , specially to the rural masses, within a reasonably  convenient reach. Making use of long experience in the fields of plastic extrusion and Hand pump technology, the above pump is the latest addition to the product range of the house of AJAY which is known for Quality & Workmanship.

TARA is a direct action Hand pump having all VLOM (Village Level Operation & maintenance) features ,suitable to draw water from low to medium lifts ( upto 18 mtrs max). Having proper bore-sealing and without the need of priming (as required in the case of suction pumps) this pump eliminates the possibility of contamination of Tubewell water and delivers the ground water stored in geological formation below the ground, which has been found to be biologically safe for Human consumption. TARA is well suitable for more aggressive soil & water as the below ground components are made of uPVC, Thermo-Plastic moulding & Stainless Steel.

CONSTRUCTION :
The major construction features of TARA Direct Action Hand Pump are as under :

SALIENT FEATURES

1. More discharge in both upward and downward strokes.
2. Capable to draw water from depth upto 15 meters beyond the suction  limit (7 meters)
3. Corrosion resistance.
4. Direct action pump. No leverage & bearing.
5. Simple maintenance.
6. Easy installation.
7. Low pump cost.
8. Light, hence easy to handle.
9. Two women can attend below ground repair.
10. Few & simple tools required for installation & maintenance.
11. Few spare parts required for normal installation.
12. Easy availability of spares.
13. Light weight (uPVC) pump rods, provides buoyancy.
14. Specially designed well screen.
15. Works on principle of positive displacement.

PUMP HEAD ASSEMBLY

This is an above ground structure consisting of pump body, to support the whole system, and a T bar handle for direct application to operate the plunger thus eliminating the complexity of lever action & use of bearing which are prone to wear & tear necessitating frequent replacement.
The height of the pump body from the platform & the length of handle is designed to suit the stature of different users for comfortable movement of handle for stroke length of 300-400 mm. at various positions. Manufactured from high quality steel & hot dip galvanized for effective corrosion resistance.

PUMP ROD ASSEMBLY

Made up of uPVC Pipes, this assembly provides the linkage between pump handle & the piston in the cylinder. With their weight & high displacement capacity these rods help in reducing the effort required for upward stroke due to buoyancy. These rods are interconnected with the help of injection moulded uPVC knuckle threaded adapters The top most rod is connected with the handle by the top connector bolt provided at one end locked in position by the Check Nut.

RISING MAIN

The rising main connects the cylinder assembly with the pump body, and carries water from the tubewell. The moulded knuckle threaded couplers are solvent cemented on both the ends of 3 Mt. pipes. During the installation these pipes are joined together, which provides leak proof joint and simplifies the installation of the pump.

CYLINDER ASSEMBLY

Cylinder assembly, the heart of the pump located at the bottom of the rising main and is connected to the top of lower well casing pipe consisting foot valve piston assembly and piston rod. The piston assembly moves up and down with respect to stationary cylinder, lifts the water upwards during each stroke. uPVC Pipe of 60 mm OD and 3mm wall thickness used as cylinder.

TUBE WELL ASSEMBLY

It consists of upper well casing, lower well casing and well screen assembly. The rising main itself acts as upper well casing. The lower casing is provided to place the well screen at the correct underground aquifer. The top of the lower well casing is solvent cemented to the cylinder bottom through the reducer bell connector. Whereas the lower well casing is solvent cemented bell & spigot joint. The well screen, made out of uPVC ribbed pipe, is specially designed to provide increased open area and lesser sand penetration.

RETRIEVING ROD ASSEMBLY

Though not a part of pump, this assembly helps in extracting foot valve assembly from cylinder for repair & maintenance.
